Thane Namy, Chief Technology Officer and Founder

What you motivated you to start Clear Rate 20 years ago?

I worked for a large telecommunications provider. I loved the technology used for connecting people and business. I thought it was really interesting that we could connect coast-to-coast locations and transfer data instantly. However, I was frustrated by politics in that company. Some individuals were hired and promoted without good skills, experience and track record of success. It hurt the company in multiple ways when the best people weren’t hired and/or promoted. I started Clear Rate because I loved technology and I wanted a company where individuals are solely judged on performance.

What’s your favorite part of your job?

I really enjoy launching new products and services. Whether that is bundling existing products or launching completely new technology. For instance, we launched SD-WAN a few years ago and have seen rapid adoption of this service. It provides the customer so many tools to optimize their business connections including a user friendly, intuitive dashboard.  Users love the fact that it gives them visibility to all of their locations and they can see what is happening from a utilization and traffic perspective.

Who inspires you and why?

In a professional capacity, I’d have to say Elon Musk because he started several companies in areas that I’m interested in including automobile manufacturing, space exploration, satellite internet and boring (infrastructure and tunnel construction). All of these have major challenges that are unique to their respective industries and he overcame them. Additionally, he’s an advocate of free speech as evidenced by his recently refused to block certain content on his internet service.

What advice would you give someone in your field and has accomplished what you have?

I would say, innovation and new technology are still the keys to the future. You should strive to constantly innovate and show companies how to apply these new technologies for increased efficiencies.

What’s one thing, industry-related or not, you learned in the last month?

Private networks and security rank among the top 4 priorities for companies in 2022.

Now tell us some fun facts about you. What are your hobbies, interests etc.?

I like technology and aviation. I have 300 hours of flight time. I have a private pilot’s license for single engine airplane as well as an instrument rating. I was approximately 10 hours short of training for a commercial pilots license. I’d like to learn how to fly helicopters in the future.
